“Chunkie” has undergone a remarkable transformation since last October. At just three months old, she was discovered by Sacramento firefighters en route to an emergency call. She was tied to a tree in the pouring rain and had contracted scabies. The firefighters were moved by her plight and couldn’t bear to leave her behind, so they brought her back to their firehouse. Fast forward a few months and Chunkie is now a completely different pup. She’s come a long way from having no friends and suffering from a painful skin condition. Thanks to the kindness of those firefighters, Chunkie has found a new lease on life and is thriving.
After their return, the team responsible for putting out the fire concluded that it was in the best interest of the little pup to take her to a shelter where she would receive adequate care and attention. Mike Thawley made sure to dry her off before bringing her to the Animal Shelter located on Front Street for safekeeping.
Mike Thawley couldn’t shake the thought of Chunkie out of his mind, even though he knew she was in good hands at the shelter. He felt a strong desire to visit her again the next day and make sure she knew she had someone who cared about her in the world, even though she was a sickly pitbull puppy.
When Mike Thawley walked into the shelter, Chunkie immediately recognized him and excitedly greeted him. Chunkie then proceeded to follow Mike around the shelter.
It was apparent that a bond had formed between the two,
as they had developed a liking for each other.
Thus, on Mike Thawley’s subsequent visit with his family to meet the adorable Pitbull,
the connection between them was palpable.
Chunky captured the hearts of Mike Thawley and his family, prompting them to adopt her. Thankfully, after four months of undergoing mange treatment, Chunky was cleared to go home with her new family.
A new bundle of joy has arrived into the family and they couldn’t be more thrilled. Baby Chunkie has quickly become a beloved member and is showered with endless love and affection.
