Lionel Messi has promised to bring additional silverware to Inter Miami during a night of celebration commemorating his historic eighth Ballon d’Or victory hosted by the club.
On Friday night, Miami faced off against New York City FC in a friendly match dubbed ‘Noche de Oro’. This game also marked the end of a tumultuous season which saw Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba all head to South Florida.
Messi led Inter Miami to victory in the League Cup, which was the team’s first ever trophy, shortly after arriving in the United States just a few weeks ago.
Before the start of Friday night’s event, the 36-year-old was introduced to the audience at DRV PNK Stadium and he made a promise to bring more trophies for the MLS club.
Messi expressed the importance of securing the first title for their club, stating that they were actively searching for it and needed it. He promised to bring more silverware to Inter Miami after their win in the League’s Cup.
Miami held an exciting celebration to commemorate Messi’s record-breaking eighth Ballon d’Or.
Messi stated that he was confident in our ability to have a good time and enjoy ourselves. Now, I have no doubt that the upcoming year will be much better than before. We will continue to have fun and win more titles. I hope you will join me in this journey. In the next year, we have important things to accomplish, and we need to do it together. The World Cup winner, who signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Inter Miami, also expressed his gratitude to the supporters of the team and the people of South Florida for making his family feel welcome after their arrival in July.
“It’s wonderful to share this with all of you – I have been here for a short time but it feels like I’ve been here a long time,” he added. “I’d like to thank all of the people of Miami – not only the ones in the stadium but everyone here – for the treatment in these months. For myself and my family. They made me feel at home. It’s a city with a lot of Latinos and I feel comfortable.” The World Cup winner was presented to the crowd at DRV PNK Stadium ahead of kick-off.
